11.11.11.11.11.11

Here in Europe, we are approaching the number that will be the occasion for some weddings, as well as- in Germany- the official start of the karneval season. You will, today, experience a date that comes only once in a century- 11.11.11, 11.11.11. For just one second, all you´ll see on your digital timekeeping device will be the digit one. And, as digital timekeeping devices are a quite recent invention, our generation will be the first to have that opportunity.
After just one second, the number will have changed again.
There´s a lesson in that. Perfection of any kind is something that you may achieve- or think you´ve achieved- for a fleeting moment, only to have the law of entropy take over and have things revert to their usual less-than-perfect state. In contrast to that clock, you will likely have spent plenty of effort, only to find some of it, at least, going to waste faster than you can say Jack Robinson.
That doesn´t mean you should quit trying to get closer to perfection. Just don´t get frustrated when you can´t achieve it, or, after achieving it, can´t keep it up. Because, you know, the moment of time marked 11.11.11,11.11.12 has as many possibilities in it as the second preceding it, or the one that follows. And even if you´re not perfect, it´s up to you to be your very best in every second of your life.
